Agalmic Desires: I did a search for "evolutionary psychology gender roles" just to see what happens

unbrokencircle:

The first hit is like everything I hoped for, it was painfully hilarious. There are no citations and it’s just this giant page in raw html written by some random person just blabbing on about bullshit:

On average, males are distinctly superior at hurling rocks and spears at targets. In fact,…

If my dad were here, he’d sitting on the porch steps with me, wearing Caterpillar boots and smoking a Marlboro Red.

I’d tell him everything; all that’s he’s missed out on, the story up until this very moment in time. He’d listen as he heaved smoke in and out of those indestructible lungs, not looking at me but staring into the chirping night, nodding.

“We’re Fonsecas,” he’d say, beginning some simple lecture that my mind cannot currently finish. Yet a part of me knows that speaking to him would ease my nerves, and that alone would mean the world to me right now.

I think I’m going to correspond with people primarily by letters this summer. I will be the most social hermit anyone’s ever known.

There was a time in my life when I wanted to be a Hasidic Jew. Then I discovered that that the conversion process is a bitch, I’d have to give up bacon and if I actually did complete the conversion I would never really be a Jew because apparently your mother has to be Jewish in order for you to be a Jew. With that ridiculously long sentence concluded, I should mention that I was in a production of Fiddler on the Roof during that time and I enjoyed acting like a Jewish person. I think I just like acting like a Jew, rather than actually being a Jew.
With that said, enjoy this picture. It made me laugh.

Okay.
1.  If you convert to Judaism, you’re a Jew.
2.  I really don’t get the Christian fascination with bacon.
3.  You realize not all Jews act like the people in Fiddler on the Roof, right?

this is why I’ve blocked 90% of the Judaism tag
how does one act like a Jew, pray tell

Ever growing, ever changing. The nautilus shell consists of ever-larger chambers in which the sea creature lives for a while until it outgrows that particular chamber. Once it grows a new, larger chamber it cannot go back to the previous ones; they no longer fit. It has no choice but to move on. Yet, the old chambers are still a part of who they are. Your past defines who you are, you don’t necessarily have to go back to your old ways but they are still a part of who you are today.

“We are well-advised to keep on nodding terms with the people we used to be, whether we find them attractive company or not. Otherwise, they turn up unannounced and surprise us, come hammering on the mind’s door at 4 am of a bad night and demand to know who deserted them, who betrayed them, who is going to make amends. We forget all too soon the things we thought we could never forget.” - Joan Didion
